Maya civilization
1.When did Maya reach its highest achievements?
Maya civilization developed into highly structured kingdoms during the Classic period, A.D. 200-900. Their society consisted of many independent states, each with a rural farming community and large urban sites built around ceremonial centres.
2.Where did Maya live?
The Maya are people of southern Mexico and northern Central America (Guatemala, Belize, western Honduras, and El Salvador) with some 3,000 years of history. The Maya were part of the Mesoamerican Pre-Columbian cultures.
3.What were Mayas accomplishments?
The Maya developed astronomy, calendrical systems, hieroglyphic writing and Mathematics.
They independently developed the concept of zero, and used a base 20 numbering system. Inscriptions show them on occasion working with sums up to the hundreds of millions and dates so large it would take several lines just to represent it. They produced extremely accurate astronomical observations; their charts of the movements of the moon and planets are equal or superior to those of any other civilization working from naked eye observation
4.What happened to Maya after 900 A.D.?
In the 8th and 9th centuries CE Classic Maya culture went into decline, with most of the cities of the central lowlands abandoned. Warfare, ecological depletion of croplands, and drought or some combination of those factors are usually suggested as reasons for the decline. There is archaeological evidence of warfare, famine, and revolt against the elite at various central lowlands sites
5.In your opinion, what is the most interesting fact about Maya's civilization?
I think the most interesting thing is that we actrully don't know how the Maya came to an end.
It's a mystery.
